Job summary

NORDEN SHIPPING (SINGAPORE) PTE. LTD. is hiring a Data Engineer to build pipelines and datasets that unlock trusted data across the business. You will collaborate with digital and commercial teams to understand needs and deliver robust data foundations.

You'll work with Lakehouse architectures using Microsoft Fabric and Azure Databricks, focusing on data quality, accessibility and practical insights for Singapore operations.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
• A degree within data, IT, engineering or another analytical field.
• Eligibility to work in Singapore.
• Practical experience with Lakehouse architecture, for example in Microsoft Fabric or Azure Databricks.
• Experience working with how data is structured, transformed and made available to others.
• Contributed to decisions around how data should be structured or used.
• Good English communication skills, both written and spoken.

Job description

Good decisions start with good data. But good data does not just happen. At NORDEN, data comes from many places and is used across our business to understand markets, automate processes and make better decisions. Your job is to make sure that data is actually ready to be used.

As our new Data Engineer, you will build the pipelines and datasets that move data through our organisation and turn raw information into something people can trust and work with.

You will not be sitting far away from the business maintaining pipelines no one really talks about. You will work closely with digital and commercial colleagues, understand what they need and build the data foundation that helps them solve real problems.

And while shipping knowledge is something you will pick up along the way, curiosity about data and how to make it useful is something we hope you bring from day one.

Why this role?

Because there is a lot to build, improve and figure out.

You will be part of our new Data Engineering team in Singapore, starting with two colleagues, while working closely with nine experienced Data Engineering colleagues in Copenhagen. Together, you will work across locations, share ideas and build solutions using PySpark, SQL, Azure DevOps and Microsoft Fabric.

Some days will be about building something new. Others will be about improving what already exists, finding a smarter way to structure data or figuring out why something is not working quite as expected.

What connects it all is the purpose behind it: making data easier to trust, access and use across NORDEN.

You will get room to develop your technical skills, learn from experienced colleagues and get much closer to the commercial side of a global shipping business than you might expect from a traditional Data Engineer role.

What you bring

You do not need to know everything already. But you should know enough to be curious about what you do not.

You likely have:

• 1–3 years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
• A degree within data, IT, engineering or another analytical field.
• Eligibility to work in Singapore.
• Practical experience with Lakehouse architecture, for example in Microsoft Fabric or Azure Databricks.
• Experience working with how data is structured, transformed and made available to others.
• Contributed to decisions around how data should be structured or used.
• Good English communication skills, both written and spoken.

Just as importantly, you like solving problems. You ask questions when something does not make sense and you enjoy working with people who may see the problem from a completely different angle than you do.
