Job summary

Google is offering a unique 10-12 week paid internship in Singapore focused on hardware operations and data center infrastructure. You will participate in an executive speaker series and community-building activities, gaining hands-on experience with deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in CS/IT with Linux/networking exposure, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, or related field.
• Enrolled in the penultimate year of Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
• Experience installing a network or Linux system and basic concepts.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to repair, upgrades, decoms, deployment, cabling, etc.
• Identify trends for machine failure, report bugs, and coordinate with remote teams to resolve them.
• Contribute to deployment and maintenance projects and support data center infrastructure.
• Configure and troubleshoot Linux OS challenges on servers and resolve escalated issues.

Job description

Participation in the internship program requires that you are located in Singapore for the duration of the internship program.

Google will be prioritizing applicants who have a current right to work in Singapore, and do not require Google's sponsorship of a visa.

Minimum qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, or similar technical area of study.
• Enrolled in the penultimate academic year of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
• Experience installing a network or Linux system and with the basic concepts around these.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in or a practical understanding of Linux and networking, including installation, systems administration, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge and experience with hardware architecture, maintenance, and repair.
• Knowledge of networking, including topology and protocol concepts.
• Ability to learn new technical skills and domains.
• Ability to work as a team member and collaborate with others to help resolve challenges.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The Hardware Operations team is the data center team responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and deploying the physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. Operations engineers deploy and maintain Google's advanced data center server and network infrastructure.
