Contract Duration: 1 Year
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 42 hours per week

Job Overview

The Curatorial Research Assistant will play a key role in supporting the development of a major exhibition on art and artefacts from the Mogao Grottoes, exploring the spread of Buddhist art across Asia. The role involves research, curatorial assistance, and administrative coordination for the exhibition, related publications, and public programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research using both primary and secondary sources.
  • Prepare texts, bibliographies, captions, images, and footnotes for exhibition materials and publications.
  • Support administrative tasks such as maintaining object lists, coordinating image rights, and managing documentation.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external partners, including vendors, designers, and collaborators.
  • Contribute to the exhibition’s narrative, presentation, and design.
  • Assist in the preparation of multimedia materials where applicable.
  • Support the organisation of lectures, talks, and educational activities related to the exhibition.
  • Contribute to research, writing, and production of exhibition-related publications.
  • Perform other exhibition and curatorial duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Proficiency in English and with the ability to conduct academic research
  • Strong interest and/or research experience in Asian art and culture, particularly within the Buddhist tradition.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills in multiple languages.
  • Strong organisational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
