Job summary

Meta seeks a data center Critical Facility Engineer to join our Data Center Facility Operations team. You will operate and maintain critical systems in our data centers, ensuring uptime, safety, and efficiency.

The role requires hands-on maintenance, ability to work a shift including nights/holidays, and collaboration with vendors. A background in electrical/HVAC/Mechanical, plus data center experience, is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or controls maintenance.
• Associate's degree in engineering +3+ years or Bachelor's degree +2+ years will be considered as equivalent.
• Experience performing safe physical operational tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on operations and maintenance per site processes to maximize uptime.
• Complete work orders accurately in Hexagon asset management system.
• Maintain technical knowledge of data center infrastructure and complete PQS training.
• Provide technical assistance and respond to data center facility emergencies.
• Regularly inspect equipment, safety routes, and grounds for faults.
• Troubleshoot, evaluate and recommend system upgrades.
• Order parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs.
• Work with vendors and contractors to meet Meta standards and processes.
• Escalate issues to facility management promptly.
• Assist in scheduling and supervising vendors during maintenance.
• Suggest improvements to operations and maintenance programs.
• Operate in a shift schedule, including nights and holidays.

Job description

Meta is seeking a data center Critical Facility Engineer to join our Data Center Facility Operations team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers. The Critical Facility Engineer will be a part of the Facility Operations team responsible for operating and maintaining critical systems in our data centers.

Critical Facility Engineer Responsibilities:

• Perform hands-on operations and maintenance which includes all physical and administrative operations tasks, service, and maintenance in accordance with site processes and procedures to ensure the highest levels of uptime, efficiency, and safety without disruption to the business
• Complete work order requests accurately and on time in an enterprise asset management (EAM) system (Hexagon)
• Achieve and maintain a high-level of technical knowledge regarding data center infrastructure and operations. Successfully complete personnel qualification standards (PQS) training
• Provides technical expertise and assistance as required
• Respond quickly, using Meta procedures or emergency operating procedures to data center facility emergencies
• Regularly inspect equipment, buildings, safety routes and grounds to check or identify any abnormal or unsafe conditions or faults
• Troubleshoot, evaluate and recommend system upgrades
• Order parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs
• Work with vendors and contractors to ensure work is in accordance with the agreed Meta processes, procedures, and standards
• Escalate issues to facility management appropriately and timely
• Assist in scheduling and supervising vendors/subcontractors during equipment/systems maintenance and service
• Provide recommendations of improvements to the operations and maintenance program on an on-going basis
• Required to work on a shift schedule, which may include nights and holidays
• Utilize computerized tooling, in a control room environment, to operate remote equipment, monitor system alerts, centralize communications, diagnose faults, and prioritize dispatching of resources

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5+ years experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, controls, or other technical maintenance field
• Associate's degree in engineering plus 3+ years experience or Bachelor's degree in related field plus 2+ years experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or controls will be considered in lieu of 5+ years experience
• Experience with performing physical activities required for operational tasks safely and effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years experience in a data center or other Critical Environment (pharma, clean room, medical, power production, etc.)
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and life safety monitoring and control systems typically used in critical environments
• Trade Certification or state licensure in Electrical or Mechanical (HVAC)
• Professional affiliations (7x24 Exchange, IFMA, Data Center Pulse, etc.)
• Knowledge of EAM/CMMS systems
• Knowledge of critical facilities operations
• Experience interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
