Job summary

National University Health System invites applications for a Consultant (Chemical Pathology) at Tengah General and Community Hospital. You will commission and lead the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, shaping its test menu, workflows, governance, quality, safety and team culture.

You will hold full governance under the HCSA, oversee LIS implementation, evaluate test performance, chair the Quality Committee, and drive ISO 15189/CAP accreditation while building a multidisciplinary team and

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) registrable qualification with the Singapore Medical Council.
  • Fellowship of Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) or FRCPA or equivalent specialist qualification.
  • Post-fellowship consultant experience in Clinical Biochemistry is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full clinical governance and regulatory responsibility under HCSA and licence conditions.
  • Commission and operationalise the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, including LIS implementation and POCT governance.
  • Oversee evaluation of test performance prior to implementation.
  • Chair the Laboratory Quality Committee and develop a safety program for the laboratory.
  • Lead ISO 15189 / CAP accreditation efforts.
  • Recruit, supervise, and develop a multidisciplinary laboratory team.
  • Provide expert clinical advice on test selection and interpretation to clinicians.

Consultant (Chemical Pathology)

As the Clinical Biochemistry founder, you will commission and lead the service — designing its test menu, workflows, governance, quality, safety and team culture.

Job Description:
  • Full clinical governance and regulatory responsibility under the Healthcare Services Act (HCSA) and licence conditions.
  • Commission and operationalise the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, including Laboratory Information System (LIS) implementation and Point-of-care testing (POCT) governance.
  • Oversee and approve the evaluate of a test performance prior to its implementation.
  • Chair the Laboratory Quality Committee; develop and oversee a safety programme for the laboratory.
  • Lead future ISO 15189 / The College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation.
  • Recruit, supervise and develop a multidisciplinary laboratory team.
  • Provide expert clinical advice on test selection, interpretation and complex biochemistry to clinical colleagues.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) registrable qualification with the Singapore Medical Council
  • The Fellowship of Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath), The FRCPA (Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologist of Australasia), or equivalent specialist qualification
  • Proven experience in laboratory management, quality, safety, governance and accreditation (ISO 15189 / The College of American Pathologists (CAP))
  • Experience commissioning or significantly developing a clinical laboratory, including automation
  • At least 5 years of post-fellowship consultant experience in Clinical Biochemistry
  • Laboratory Information System (LIS) implementation experience
  • ISO 15189 Lead Assessor or The College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspector training
  • Familiarity with Singapore / Asia-Pacific regulatory environment
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient in budget management, financial analysis, and performance metrics.
