Overview:
Lead regional Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) governance for data centre construction projects, ensuring compliance with company standards, local regulations and industry best practices. The role provides independent oversight of project safety performance, contractor compliance, incident management and continuous improvement across the project lifecycle.
Make an Impact by
EHS Governance & Compliance
- Develop and maintain regional construction EHS standards, procedures and governance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with project HSE plans, environmental requirements, Permit-to-Work systems, Design for Safety principles and local regulations.
- Review key contractor safety documents such as risk assessments, method statements, lifting plans and emergency response plans.
- Conduct compliance reviews and audits and track corrective actions to closure.
- Review and evaluate contractor EHS capability for regional tender including tender evaluation assessment.
Site Safety & Contractor Oversight
- Conduct regular site inspections and governance reviews across regional projects.
- Monitor high-risk activities including excavation, lifting, working at height, electrical works, hot work, confined space, MEP works, testing and commissioning.
- Assess and monitor contractor EHS capability and performance, escalating significant concerns where required.
- Drive safety improvement initiatives with project and contractor teams.
- Oversee project risk assessments and verify appropriate controls are in place before work starts.
- Ensure Design for Safety principles are integrated into design and construction activities.
- Review incident investigations and root cause analyses, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Analyse incident trends and share lessons learned across the region.
EHS Performance & Reporting
- Participate in project and regional EHS governance monthly and quarterly meetings.
- Prepare EHS dashboards and reports covering incidents, audits, training compliance, safety observations and key performance indicators.
- Conduct regular EHS performance reviews with project leaders and senior management.
- Monitor compliance with environmental requirements, including noise, dust, waste, chemical storage, water discharge and spill prevention.
- Provide safety oversight for mission-critical works, including HV/LV electrical installation, energisation, testing and commissioning.
- Review isolation procedures and risk controls before energisation and commissioning activities.
Authority
- Request the Project Lead to stop or suspend unsafe work where there is imminent danger or serious non-compliance.
- Require corrective actions before work resumes and escape repeated or severe violations to senior management.
- Recommend contractor suspension for serious or repeated safety breaches.
Skills for Success
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
- Preferred certifications include WSH Officer/Manager, NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 45001/14001 Lead Auditor, CSP, OSHA or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of construction safety experience, including at least 5 years in data centre or mission-critical infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing EPC/general contractors, safety consultants and multi-country projects within APAC.
- Proven experience in incident investigation, root cause analysis and contractor performance management.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety, risk management, environmental compliance and Design for Safety.
- Strong leadership, communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with sound, independent judgement.
- Proactive and collaborative working style, with willingness to travel across the region
