. Our client, a Top US International Law firm are recruiting for a Commercial Litigation/Arbitration Lawyer for their Hong Kong office.

Their market-leading international arbitration team is known for its expertise in managing complex and substantial arbitrations worldwide. They are well versed in related court proceedings, such as jurisdiction challenges, freezing orders and the enforcement of arbitral awards. They also have one of the world’s leading marine and international trade practices, offering a breadth of services to clients active in the shipping, commodity, insurance and offshore sectors that few other firms can match.

They have represented clients in arbitration proceedings under the rules of all the major institutions and trade associations, such as LCIA, ICC, CIETAC, SCIA, SIAC, HKIAC, DIFC-LCIA, LMAA, SCMA, FOFSA, GAFTA, UNCITRAL and ICID.

Their expertise is global, led from their offices in London, Paris, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore, with support from our other offices.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will focus primarily on arbitration matters and litigation support to arbitration matters. Litigation work will typically be before the Hong Kong High Court but is likely to involve co-ordinating proceedings in other jurisdictions. Arbitration work will be both institutional (HKIAC, CIETAC, ICC, LCIA and SIAC) and ad hoc or on LMAA, SCMA and HKMAG Terms.

You will develop your legal skills as a contract lawyer (particularly with respect to the sale, carriage, storage and financing of goods) and be given exposure to a wide range of clients operating in the energy, metals and soft commodities sectors. You will also have the opportunity to broaden your skillset to include drafting and advisory work.

Day to day case management, including:

  • Actively managing case progress
  • Acting as the key contact point for clients, experts and counsel
  • Drafting witness statements and other court/arbitration documents
  • Drafting inter parties correspondence
  • Legal and procedural research and drafting advice
  • Attending meetings and hearings

Business development, including:

  • Preparing legal articles and updates
  • Developing your own internal and external network of contacts
  • Attending business development and profile-raising events (client networking events, attending seminars, giving talks etc.)
Attributes / Skills Required
  • Qualified lawyer with litigation and arbitration experience, preferably to include exposure to shipping work.
  • Hong Kong, English and Singapore qualifications considered.
  • Mandarin Chinese language skills.
  • Ambitious self-starter.
  • Resilient with the ability to handle setbacks and pressure.
  • Willingness to take responsibility early on.
  • Excellent academic and professional qualifications.
  • Active interest in business development activities.
