We are seeking a Chartering & Operation Senior Executive to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will act as an intermediary between ship owners and charterers, negotiating contracts, facilitating vessel transactions, and ensuring smooth maritime operations.
Ship brokers are vital to global commerce as they help move goods efficiently across international waters. The role offers opportunities to specialize in areas like chartering, freight trading, or sale and purchase brokerage.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiating charter contracts: Arrange agreements between ship owners and charterers for transporting cargo.
- Facilitating sales and purchases: Assist in buying, selling, or leasing vessels for commercial purposes.
- Market analysis: Monitor global shipping trends, freight rates, and supply-demand dynamics.
- Client relationship management: Build and maintain strong networks with shipping companies, traders, and logistics providers.
- Documentation and compliance: Ensure contracts meet legal, financial, and regulatory standards.
- Problem-solving: Handle disputes, delays, or unexpected issues during shipping transactions.
- Duties may include, but are not limited to, the above mentioned.
Requirement and Skills
- Negotiation skills: Ability to secure favourable terms for clients.
- Financial acumen: Understanding of freight rates, costs, and profit margins.
- Communication skills: Clear and persuasive interaction with diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical thinking: Assess market conditions and anticipate trends.
- Attention to detail: Accuracy in contracts and compliance paperwork.
- Networking ability: Strong connections in the shipping and trading industry.
- Industry knowledge: Familiarity with international trade, shipping regulations, and maritime law.
- Experience: Prior work in logistics, trading, or shipping brokerage is advantageous.
- Certifications in chartering or maritime commerce is preferable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business, Economics, or related field
- Strong negotiation skills with proven commercial acumen
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail
- Minimum 10 years’ industry experience in shipping, logistics, or brokerage preferred
- Fluent in written and spoken in English
- Fluent in written and spoken in Japanese is preferable (to liaise effectively through written business letters, business contract, conference/meeting, emails, phone calls with Japan HQ).
- Proficient in MS Dynamics software to create financial report of responsible departments.
