Overview

The Carbon, Community and Biodiversity Expert will provide technical expertise in the design, assessment, and implementation of nature-based carbon projects and programmes, ensuring strong community and biodiversity outcomes. This role will lead on applying recognised carbon and co-benefit standards, such as Verra (VCS & CCB), Gold Standard, and emerging methodologies that promote high-integrity, inclusive, and equitable climate action. Working closely with WWF teams and external partners, the Expert will ensure that projects are scientifically robust, socially responsible, and environmentally sound — delivering real climate, nature, and people benefits.

Responsibilities
Technical Design and Implementation
  • Lead the technical design and review of carbon projects and programmes with a focus on community engagement, biodiversity conservation, and nature-based solutions.
  • Ensure project concepts, baselines, and methodologies comply with leading carbon and co-benefit standards (e.g., Verra VCS & CCB, Gold Standard, Plan Vivo).
  • Provide technical input on project documentation, including PDDs (Project Design Documents), monitoring plans, and validation/verification processes.
  • Support the development of robust MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) frameworks for carbon, community, and biodiversity outcomes.
Quality Assurance and Standards Alignment
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving carbon standards, methodologies, and integrity frameworks, ensuring WWF projects align with best practices and market expectations.
  • Guide internal teams and partners on the integration of social and biodiversity safeguards, equitable benefit sharing, and community participation mechanisms.
  • Provide quality assurance for project-level data, impact reporting, and certification processes.
Capacity Building and Technical Support
  • Build internal capacity within WWF-Singapore and external capacity within partner organisations on carbon project development, standards application, and co-benefit design.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with WWF’s global and regional carbon teams to ensure coherence with WWF’s global approaches to nature-based climate solutions.
  • Develop and share technical knowledge products, guidance notes, and tools to enhance the quality and integrity of WWF’s carbon and biodiversity initiatives.
Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Engage with technical partners, project developers, local communities, and verification bodies to ensure projects meet both technical standards and community needs.
  • Support the development of partnerships with research institutions, NGOs, and private sector actors to enhance technical innovation and on-the-ground impact.
Skills and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Climate Science, or a related field.
  • 5–8 years of experience in the design, development, or validation of nature-based carbon projects, ideally with field-level exposure.
  • Strong technical understanding of carbon crediting methodologies and standards, including Verra (VCS and CCB), Gold Standard, and other relevant frameworks (e.g., Plan Vivo, ART TREES).
  • Demonstrated experience integrating community engagement and biodiversity conservation into carbon project design and implementation.
  • Proven ability to conduct or oversee carbon accounting, baseline assessments, biodiversity surveys, and social impact evaluations.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and committed to ensuring integrity, equity, and transparency in carbon and biodiversity initiative.
