Description & Requirements

BloombergNEF (BNEF) is a strategic research provider covering global commodity markets and the disruptive technologies driving the transition to a low-carbon economy. We help our clients gain a clear perspective on the trends in technology, finance, policy and economics that are driving transformation across the energy value chain. Our expert coverage assesses pathways for the power, transport, industry, buildings and agriculture sectors to adapt to the energy transition. We help commodity trading, corporate strategy, finance and policy professionals navigate change and generate opportunities. BNEF has 250 staff based in 19 offices across the globe.

To succeed at BNEF we need people who can work in an independent manner and show initiative to develop their own viewpoints, yet be collaborative with colleagues. We don't rely on the status quo, we look for innovative yet pragmatic thinking that turns big ideas into real insights and impact. Working at BNEF sometimes feels chaotic; we need teams that are both dynamic and structured to generate the unique perspectives our clients really value. Our teams are diverse, creative, focused, and fun!

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated individual to join our Downstream Oil & Chemicals team. You will be based in our Singapore office as part of the global Downstream Oil & Chemicals research team, alongside colleagues in London, New York, Singapore and Seattle. Our team analyzes global refining, oil product, petrochemical and feedstock markets. We combine data, market intelligence and proprietary modeling to produce forward-looking insights on supply, demand, trade flows, pricing and the energy transition, helping clients navigate an increasingly complex and evolving industry. We are part of the global oil research team, and also work closely with other teams in BNEF to quantify the impact that policy, commodity prices, electrification, and changing technology cost will have on oil sector fundamentals and investment. Our team of experts, spread across six continents, provides independent analysis and insight, working with the largest corporations across utilities and generation, oil & gas, resource firms, equipment manufacturers, banking and finance, and government.

We’ll trust you to:
  • Develop market-leading research, forecasts, datasets, analytical tools, and client products covering global oil and chemical markets.
  • Establish and maintain thought leadership by producing insightful, data-driven analysis on key industry developments.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, business models, policy developments, and market entrants, and assess their implications for the industry.
  • Identify topics of interest to clients, conduct timely research, and deliver clear, actionable insights in collaboration with colleagues across BNEF.
  • Collaborate effectively and with integrity with colleagues and clients across diverse cultures, backgrounds, and geographies.
  • Build and maintain a network of industry contacts, and represent BNEF in engagements with senior executives, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Present research at client briefings, conferences, and industry events, communicating complex ideas clearly and confidently.
You’ll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or degree-equivalent qualifications in Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Social Sciences or another quantitative discipline.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including advanced Excel capabilities and experience building datasets and models from scratch.
  • Experience in commodities, energy markets or finance, with familiarity in financial analysis, financial markets and corporate strategy.
  • Ability to think critically, evaluate complex information and develop independent, data-driven viewpoints.
  • Strong written communication, data visualization skills and attention to detail.
  • Curiosity and the ability to quickly understand, distill and explain complex topics to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence interacting with senior industry contacts and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Willing to take occasional domestic and international travels as required (typically less than 20% of working time).
  • Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
We’d love to see:
  • Experience in analyzing commodity markets, especially refined oil markets and petrochemicals.
  • Post-graduate qualifications or professional experience in material sciences, chemical engineering, and/or commodities trading.
  • Experience in coding with Python (or similar language) with the goal of gathering, processing, and analyzing data.
