Bioinformatician (Computer Science/ Engineering) (Anatomical Molecular Lab)

Anatomical Molecular Laboratory (ATOM) is a laboratory under the Department of Anatomical Pathology in Singapore General Hospital. The laboratory performs clinical profiling of cancers using next generation sequencing platforms and is also equipped to perform more conventional PCR based molecular assays. Besides clinical testing of patients’ samples, ATOM (formerly known as the Translation Pathology Centre) also actively collaborates with other partners in translational research of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases.

Job Requirements:

PhDs/ Bachelor Degree in related field, including Life Sciences, Bioinformatics or Computational Biology, Computing, or relevant degrees or equivalent, and minimum 1 year of relevant job experience, whichever applicable.

Knowledge of script language and programming. Competent in Shell, Linux, Python, R and Perl scripts.

Experience in Unix/Linux environment, building and installation of Open-Source Software (Bioinformatics software tools a plus).

Familiarity in working with remote systems via secured and encrypted command line interfaces.

Prior experience in the following areas is preferable:

  • Molecular biology and/or molecular genetics, cancer genomics or population genetics.
  • Next generation sequencing systems, running pipeline analysis or working with genomic or molecular data.
  • Software engineering concepts and software development life cycle, working independently and/or as part of the group. Experience in source code version control using established tools such as git or cvs.
  • Automation of routine processes, performance optimisation of analysis pipeline and experience with workflow orchestration framework.
  • Experience in running high number of jobs via job scheduling software on high-performance computing clusters (HPC).

Candidates with higher qualification or more experience in the relevant areas may be considered for a senior position.
