Job summary

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) invites applications for a Research Assistant/Associate to join the Centre for Geroscience and Geromedicine at NTU Singapore. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Veterinary Science or related field.
• Immunology or aging research experience preferred but not required for candidates with strong academic track record.
• Exposure to animal work, tissue processing/histology, or single-cell & spatial transcriptomics is a plus; willingness to learn rapidly.
• Strong organizational, written and oral communication, and computer skills.
• Team player who can prioritize, multi-task and collaborate in a diverse workforce.

Job description

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant/Associate to join the LKCMedicine’s Centre for Geroscience and Geromedicine to focus on various aspects of translational bat immunology and aging research. The work will be conducted in a research group led by Nanyang Assistant Professor Matae Ahn who is a pioneer in bat immunology. The projects focus on learning from bats with exceptional healthy longevity to develop bat-inspired new targets and strategies to fight human diseases and aging, and have multiple national and international collaborations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and/or research findings.
• Maintain a safe, highly organized laboratory environment by managing equipment and consumables, while leading workplace safety and risk assessments.
• Assist researchers in data analysis and literature review in various research projects.
• Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare oral presentations, written reports and scientific manuscripts for publication.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.
  
  

Key Competencies And Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Veterinary Science or related field.
• Prior experience in the areas of immunology or aging is preferred but not compulsory for those with good academic and/or research track record.
• Prior experience in animal work, tissue processing/histology, or single-cell & spatial transcriptomics library preparation is a major advantage. Candidates without prior exposure to these areas must demonstrate a strong learning agility and a proactive drive to master new workflows quickly.
• Equipped with effective organizational and interpersonal communications with excellent written, oral communication and computer skills.
