Job summary

A local coffee cafe in Singapore is looking for a Barista who will be responsible for front of house operations including preparing coffee-based beverages. Occupation Description:

The Barista takes responsibility for front of house operations, prepares a variety of coffee-based beverages and teas according to their organization’s unique recipes and procedures, and serves the drinks, along with pastries and cookies. He/she will also recommend drinks to new customers, promote new recipes, keep the serving area neat and clean, keep equipment and services fully operational by following operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, and maintain inventories by replenishing coffee bean/tea supplies, pastries and cookies for coffee bar.

To provide customers with a positive experience, he should possess a friendly disposition, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.

He/She is expected to work on a shift pattern to cover early mornings and late evenings, and may also need to work some weekends and public holidays. He/She should have the stamina to stay on his feet for long periods.

Skills Required:
Customer Service & Ambassador of Business:
  • Establish relationships for customer confidence and exudes friendliness and capabilities.
  • Engaging and quick to listen and assist customers when they step into the café. Polite to their inquiry and work with the team to assist customers on their needs.
  • Represent the company in the coffee industry and events
Barista Skills & Food Service:
  • Interact with and serve F&B customers, promotes the company goals and visions
  • Maintain F&B service environment
  • Prepare and serve beverages on menu and able to educate customers on differences in drinks, preparation techniques, coffee knowledge and provides specialty coffee service
  • Prepare for beverage & food service (mise en place)
  • Maintain quality of product and service
People and Relationship Management:
  • Facilitate effective communication and engagement at the workplace
  • Facilitate effective work teams
  • Self Initiative and prepare to go beyond creating great team spirit & ownership of the business
Innovate:

  • Willing to keep learning and attend workshops and training, be updated on specialty coffee knowledge
Workplace Safety, Health & Hygiene:
  • Maintain workplace safety and health policies and procedures set by SFA and the Company
  • Follow F&B safety and hygiene policies and procedures
  • Maintain personal hygiene and upkeep of cleanliness
Sales:
  • Generates sales by equipping customers with the knowledge that helps them to drink better coffee and creating a lifestyle of coffee
  • Assist customers in choosing the right products and coffees to buy that they will want to come back for your knowledge and your service and making them feel appreciated
Education, experience and certificate requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
  • Possess a valid food handler certificate
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and well and in English
  • Knowledge of the Specialty Coffee Industry is a plus but/or knowledge of the food and beverage industry is needed or must be keen to learn
  • Familiar and able to work in shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Knowledge in using a manual coffee machine, dosing, brewing, calibrating, coffee tasting is a plus
