AVP, Client Solutions, S&R, Asia – expanding Pacific Life Re’s footprint and delivering growth in Japan, Hong Kong, and the wider Asia region is a key strategic objective of PL Re’s Savings & Retirement (S&R) line of business.
The successful candidate will combine technical ability and creativity with strong interpersonal and communication skills, leading deal teams to pursue and execute deals, expand client relationships across designated Asia countries and design and execute long‑term strategic objectives both in Asia and as part of the wider S&R team. The role reports to the VP, Client Solutions, Asia and is supported by a Manager, Client Solutions to deliver on objectives and accountabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Management:
- Build strong working relationships with key day‑to‑day and senior management contacts across clients, consultants, brokers, law firms and banks, demonstrating visibility personally and on behalf of PL Re.
- Demonstrate clear appreciation of client needs, including technical understanding of the business, financials and regulatory environment; tailor bespoke approaches accordingly.
- Maintain cultural alignment in approach to client management, acting as partners not suppliers, exercising pragmatism, being creative and solution‑driven in meeting client needs/objectives.
- Ensure regular communication with key contacts through regular catch‑ups and multi‑disciplinary meetings as necessary.
- Fulfil basic functions of client management including effective preparation and follow‑up, chairing of meetings, collaboration with team members to ensure consistency of approach across markets.
- Quote Delivery & Structuring:
- Ultimate accountability for quote delivery, supporting Manager, Client Solutions and Client Support Manager(s) in day‑to‑day quote management, setting quote strategy, proposing commercial terms, internal stakeholder management and governing processes.
- Adopt and promote a solution mindset to commercial problems, coordinating inputs from subject matter experts with in‑depth knowledge of client needs to solve complex propositional challenges.
- Possess technical understanding of underlying insurance products, including clients’ reserving and capital regime, to better guide deal teams through the quote process.
- Actively involve in pricing sign‑off process, providing constructive challenge and market context.
- Work alongside Client Solutions and Pricing representatives from wider S&R business to manage deal pipeline and resourcing decisions.
- Lead contractual structuring, treaty drafting and negotiation as the subject matter expert in deal specifics, client specifics and key commercial terms.
- Maintain understanding across a wide range of fields: actuarial liabilities, ALM, corporate finance, investments, legal and tax.
- Strategy:
- Support VP/MVP, Client Solutions in designing, developing and executing strategy for asset‑intensive and longevity reinsurance in Asia markets.
- Continually develop Asia Client Networking strategy for designated countries, ensuring key client stakeholders maintain strong connections with PL Re.
- Demonstrate strong business acumen while adhering to PL R risk‑management practices.
- Support wider Line of Business efforts to deliver on S&R workstreams as part of Pacific Life Enterprise strategic objectives over 2025‑2030 timeframe (‘Strategy Next’).
- Team Development / Management:
- Line‑manage Manager, Client Solutions: support development and wellbeing through workload management, exposure to stretching tasks and building day‑to‑day responsibilities.
- Show clear ownership behaviour on all key responsibilities, including that of Managers, and continuously upskill Managers for overall team development.
- Facilitate lateral information sharing and upskilling across AVP peer group with breadth of markets, products and skillsets.
- Proactively support quote team individuals across Insurance and Deal Pricing, giving exposure to wider deal strategy, sharing market knowledge and providing constructive challenge.
Qualifications & Expertise
- Strong and relevant technical experience in life (re)insurance, life consultancy, investment banking or brokerage linked to the Asia market.
- Strong project and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and a track record of building strong working relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
- Experience in asset‑intensive business and associated structuring frameworks is desirable.
- Desirable to have experience in longevity (re)insurance.
- Strong understanding of the technical basis of life insurance and reinsurance business, including ALM, capital frameworks and underlying products with proven ability to understand and question pricing and/or capital bases.
- Exceptional leadership, managerial and influencing skills, ability to operate at all levels.
- Highly analytical, strong negotiator and influencer with excellent organisational skills.
