Job description
  • Assisting with meal preparation:This includes tasks like chopping vegetables, portioning ingredients, and preparing sauces and marinades.
  • Cooking dishes:Following recipes and instructions from the head chef, preparing and cooking various menu items.
  • Plating and presentation:Helping to arrange food on plates according to established standards.
  • Maintaining food quality:Monitoring food temperatures and ensuring ingredients are fresh and properly stored.
Kitchen Operations & Maintenance:
  • Cleaning and sanitizing:Keeping the kitchen, food preparation areas, and equipment clean and organized.
  • Maintaining inventory:Assisting with stock rotation, checking for expiration dates, and notifying the chef when supplies are low.
  • Receiving and storing deliveries:Helping to unload and properly store new food and supply deliveries.
  • Equipment maintenance:Assisting in the upkeep and maintenance of kitchen equipment, reporting any issues to the chef.
Safety & Hygiene:
  • Adhering to food safety standards: Ensuring all food preparation is done according to established regulations.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment: Following proper hygiene practices and safety procedures to prevent accidents and contamination.
  • Following health and safety guidelines: Working in accordance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Menu planning and development: Assisting with the development of new menu items (potentially).
  • Supervising other staff: In some cases, assistant cooks may supervise other kitchen staff like dishwashers.
  • Customer service: Ensuring patrons receive high-quality food and service.
