ALCON SINGAPORE MANUFACTURING PTE. LTD. is seeking an Associate Microbiologist to lead advanced microbiology projects in the QC Lab, focusing on environmental monitoring, testing, and maintaining aseptic practices.

You will support product validation and compliance with GMP requirements. The role covers microbiological testing, investigations, CAPA implementation, and collaboration with Manufacturing, QA, Engineering, and Validation teams to ensure contamination control and product quality.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences or Biotechnology.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of microbiology experience within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical, biologics, medical device, or sterile manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of aseptic processing and contamination control principles.
  • Experience with Environmental Monitoring and cleanroom microbiology.
  • Proven experience conducting microbiological investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of FDA, EU GMP Annex 1, PIC/S, and Data Integrity requirements.
  • Experience supporting regulatory inspections.
  • Experience in microbiological control of Grade A and critical Grade B aseptic processing areas, with a strong understanding of cleanroom behavior, environmental monitoring, and contamination risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, utilities, environmental monitoring (EM), and finished products in accordance with approved procedures and GMP requirements.
  • Execute environmental monitoring programs and support routine monitoring of classified manufacturing areas to ensure compliance with contamination control requirements.
  • Support microbiological investigations, including environmental monitoring excursions, OOS, OOT, and contamination events, under the guidance of senior microbiologists/supervisor/manager.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) for microbiological deviations.
  • Support qualification, validation, and requalification activities related to microbiological methods, cleanrooms, utilities, equipment, and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform microbial identification and trending of microbiological data to support contamination control and product quality initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and GMP-compliant documentation of laboratory activities, test results, investigations, and records.
  • Maintain compliance with cGMP, GxP, Data Integrity, and site procedures.
  • Participate in laboratory housekeeping, equipment maintenance, inventory management, and laboratory readiness activities.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Validation teams to support routine operations and site objectives.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of the site's Contamination Control Strategy (CCS).
  • Assist in risk assessments related to microbiological control of manufacturing processes and cleanroom environments.
  • Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and customer audits by providing microbiological data and documentation as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing laboratory efficiency, compliance, and contamination control practices.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to laboratory analysts and trainees when assigned.
  • Participate in routine and urgent QC Microbiology laboratory activities, including shift coverage, weekends, or extended hours as required by business needs.
  • Support routine and urgent microbiology laboratory activities through rotational shift coverage when required.

As the Associate (Microbiologist) under QC Labs, you will be responsible for primarily responsiblefor leading advanced projects in the Quality Control Lab, focusing onenvironmental monitoring, testing, and maintaining aseptic practices. In this role, a typical day will include:
