Job summary

Lonza Singapore is seeking an Associate Manager in Development Services - Purification to lead a 9–10 person team. The role drives late-stage development, process characterization, and viral clearance while coaching staff and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.

Office-first with up to 20% remote work and on-site collaboration at Science Park Facility. The role emphasizes EHS/CGMP adherence, data presentation to customers, and close cooperation with cross-functional teams to advance therapies

Qualifications

• Degree/PhD in a relevant science field or equivalent.
• Experience in downstream process development or process characterization or viral clearance.
• 2–5 years of leading a team in a people-manager role.
• Experience in process characterization and viral clearance studies advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Solid understanding of cGMP regulations.

Responsibilities

Job description

Associate Manager, Development Services - Purification The actual location of this job is in Singapore. Role will lead a team of 9 to 10 FTEs, driving late stage development, process characterization and viral clearance activities. Role is responsible for coaching and developing team members, project management, risk and escalation management, optimizing resources, and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery with high levels of customer satisfaction. This position is based in Lonza Singapore, Science Park Facility. This is an office-first role. Working together in person supports close, real-time collaboration and team alignment, enabling us to deliver our best work. You will work primarily in the office, with the flexibility to work remotely for 20% of your time (one day per week).

What you will do:

• Ensure strict adherence to EHS and cGMP standards, maintaining high-quality and compliant lab operations.
• Lead a team of scientists and analysts performing downstream purification activities, including process development and process characterization.
• Manage and schedule resources (team, equipment, systems) to deliver projects aligned with department sales plans.
• Act as SME in key technical areas with growing knowledge of regulatory and IP landscapes.
• Oversee documentation, review, and approval of reports/protocols to meet quality and compliance standards.
• Present data to customers and support business development activities (proposals, presentations, lab tours).
• Ensure GMP compliance and participate in internal/external audits, build strong cross-functional relationships to support project delivery, business objectives and any other duties as assigned by Management.

What we are looking for:

• Degree/PhD in a relevant Science field or Equivalent.
• Adequate experience in downstream Process development or Process characterization or Viral Clearance and be familiar with laboratory scale execution of various techniques including affinity and ion exchange chromatography using the AKTA system, ultrafiltration/diafiltration and viral reduction strategies.
• Demonstrated experience of 2 to 5 years leading a team in a people manager role.
• Experience in Process Characterization, Viral Clearance studies, would be considered advantageous.
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
• Good understanding of cGMP regulations.
