Shopee is seeking a Singapore-qualified Legal Counsel to join the HQ Legal Team, advising on legal and compliance issues across markets to develop products, features, and services for user experience.

This role involves reviewing programs, drafting policies, coordinating with local teams, monitoring regulatory developments, and delivering trainings to support scalable e-commerce operations.

Qualifications

• Singapore-qualified lawyer with strong contracts experience.
• Analytical and communication skills with ability to lead projects.

• Ability to analyse business risks and provide pragmatic legal advice.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day legal and compliance advice to business stakeholders across markets on platform products, live-streaming, content, product liability, logistics and cross-border matters.
• Review new programs, features and services and provide pragmatic advice, including drafting internal and external facing policies.
• Proactively review commercial frameworks, identify legal gaps and develop compliance plans.
• Oversee and coordinate with local legal teams to cascade regional initiatives and resolve local issues.
• Monitor legal landscape and coordinate with regulatory authorities.
• Provide internal trainings as required.
• Perform ad hoc legal initiatives aligned with business strategy.

Candidate must be a self-starter who has a strong interest in e-commerce and technology. This is a broad and varied role suitable for an experienced lawyer who is independent, resourceful, solution-oriented and keen to make an impact to the business.

Job Description

• Provide day-to-day legal and compliance advice to business stakeholders across our markets across a wide range of topics including platform products and features, live-streaming and video content, product liability, logistics and cross-border matters.
• Review new programs, features and services and provide pragmatic advice to business stakeholders, including drafting internal and external facing policies.
• Proactively work with business stakeholders to review commercial frameworks, identify legal gaps and develop compliance plans.
• Oversee and coordinate with local legal teams to cascade regional initiatives and resolve local legal issues.
• Monitor legal landscape and coordinate correspondence/engagement with regulatory authorities.
• Provide internal trainings as required.
• Performing ad hoc legal initiatives as aligned with business strategy.

Requirements

• Singapore-qualified lawyer with strong contracts experience. In-house experience in e-commerce/internet platforms is a plus.
