Job summary

Abbott Laboratories in Singapore seeks a Shift Associate Chemist to ensure testing activities are safe, productive, and compliant with GMP/GLP and ISO/IEC 17025 standards. You will assist in method transfers, equipment qualification, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for quality issues on the production floor.

Responsibilities include performing testing, reviewing results, calibrating and maintaining equipment, and supporting batch corrections and lab investigations.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology or related discipline, or Diploma with 1–3 years of experience.
• 1 year experience in a chemistry laboratory testing environment preferred.
• Fresh graduates with academic lab experience acceptable.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory instrumentation (HPLC, UV, ICP).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced lab with tight deadlines and methodical problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Provide testing, result reviewing, equipment calibration and maintenance to Plant Operations.
• Ensure operations follow GMP/GLP and ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
• Assist in method transfers, equipment qualification, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Support audits, incoming QA, and batch corrections; report findings to supervision.

The Opportunity

As the Shift Associate Chemist, responsible for ensuring all testing activities are carried out in a safe and productive manner. Assures compliance with in-house and/or external specifications and standards, such as GMPs, Class A and ISO regulations. May be required to do GMP/GLP training. Assists in method transfers, equipment qualification, troubleshooting and determining root cause for quality issues on production floor. Alerts engineering and operations to conditions that may adversely impact the customer experience. Assist in batch corrections and lab investigations. Responsible for audits, incoming quality assurance, and feedback and reporting.

What You’ll Do

Provide testing, result reviewing, equipment calibration and maintenance as well as analytical services to Plant Operations to ensure seamless and smooth process operations. All operations in the Analytical Laboratory are carried out in a safe and productive manner, adhering to GMP/GLP and ISO/IEC 17025 standards at all times. Develop and apply procedural knowledge of work area. Typically acquired through on-the-job training. Develops a working knowledge of how own activities integrate with the work of the team. Uses information-gathering skills. Assignments require judgment with decision-making. Receives minimum supervision for all work. Organizes and completes tasks according to assigned priorities. Demonstrates an awareness of the relative urgency of tasks and responds accordingly. Exchanges and verifies job-related information to provide support. Comply with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), hygiene rules, and sanitation standards. Provide training for new hires and analysts. Any other duties assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology or related discipline, or Diploma with at least 1 to 3 years of experience.
• Preferably 1 year experience in a chemistry laboratory testing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Fresh graduates with experience in an academic laboratory environment are also acceptable.
• Basic knowledge in laboratory instrumentation, such as HPLC, UV, ICP, etc.
• Practical experience working in a fast-paced laboratory environment with tight deadlines and able to solve problems in a speedy and methodical manner with good follow-up on action items.
