A global biopharma company is seeking an Associate Analytical Scientist for a 2-year contract in Singapore. The role involves conducting analytical testing for new vaccine development, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and managing analytical equipment. Ideal candidates will have a relevant degree and experience in an analytical laboratory environment. Responsibilities include thorough documentation and supporting data-driven decision making.
We are looking to fill a new Associate Analytical Scientist position (2 years contract) in the GSK Global Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) Analytical Science Asia Hub. As an Associate Analytical Scientist in the Asia Hub, you are part of the Global Analytical Science team encompassing analytical scientists and materials science experts covering 3 modalities (small molecule, large molecule and vaccines) in the Global Supply Chain (GSC). In this role, you will focus on analytical testing and the generation of characterization packages to support process development and launch of new vaccines intermediates and products, whilst ensuring all experimental work and documentation are carried out in accordance with appropriate Quality and EHS standards. You will also have opportunities to support the introduction and qualification of new analytical equipment, analytical method development, troubleshooting, validation, and transfer.
Analytical Testing and Competency: Deliver planned testing with minimal supervision that is aligned with business priorities, including setting up analytical equipment and methods, to support non-routine characterization and comparability assessments of drug substances and intermediates to support new and established vaccines products. Develop technical competence across core analytical techniques and support the introduction of new analytical technologies.
Analytical Equipment Management: Qualification and lifecycle maintenance (including preventive maintenance/calibration and performance verification checks) of analytical equipment to appropriate analytical standards aligned with data criticality. Ensure robustness and reliability of analytical equipment in line with GMP and data management principles, mitigating data integrity risks. Demonstrate effective ownership of assigned equipment ensuring timely resolution of issues and maintaining appropriate compliance. Anticipate and address potential problems with equipment or supplies.
Data Lifecycle Management: Ensure thorough, complete and accurate documentation of all laboratory procedures and data, including standard operating procedures, work instructions, protocols, reports, laboratory notebooks, technical memos, raw data and risk assessments. Maintain compliance to GMP, GLP, data integrity and housekeeping requirements ensuring data traceability and easy retrieval.
Data-Driven Decision Making and Recommendations: Generate, compile, analyze and communicate experimental results through written reports and presentations to support new process development, material and process changes/improvements to drive high impact, data-driven decision making, improving right first-time performance, product quality, robustness, cost savings and manufacturability.
Problem-Solving and Root Cause Analysis: Carry out troubleshooting related to analytical equipment and methods, ensuring timely resolution with effective corrective and preventive actions to minimize business impact and keep projects on track.
Laboratory Management, Safety and Sustainability: Support laboratory infrastructural and maintenance activities and environmental health, safety and sustainability (EHSS) activities. Ensure a safe laboratory working environment and inspection readiness of the laboratory through management monitoring (MM)/independent business monitoring (IBM) inspections, regular safety GEMBA(s) and risk assessments for all analytical activities carried out. Execute tasks with high quality and ensure compliance with EHS requirements, contributing to department EHS programs and initiatives.
At least a degree in Pharmacy, Analytical Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
Able to learn quickly and carry out laboratory experiments independently with minimal supervision.
Prior hands-on experience in an analytical environment in an academic environment or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
Hands-on experience in one or more of the following analytical techniques will be advantageous: Chromatographic techniques (HPLC, UPLC), SEC-MALS, GC, chemi-luminesence techniques, analysis of biomolecular interactions by bio-layer interferometry, spectrophotometric techniques and colorimetric assays, dynamic light scattering and Lowry assay.
Enjoy working in a laboratory environment and thrive in activities and tasks related to analytical testing, analytical method development, troubleshooting, optimization, problem solving and root cause analysis under time pressure, to meet business needs and project implementation timelines.
Excellent communication skills at all levels, both written (technical writing for reports and experimental write-ups) and verbal, including data presentations to stakeholders and for escalations of issues.
Possess a continuous improvement mindset and be able to support improvement initiatives.
