Assistant Underwriter - Engineering Department

Job Overview:

We are hiring a highly organized and detail-oriented Assistant Underwriter to join our Engineering Department. The successful candidate will assist the Underwriters in evaluating insurance applications, assessing risk, and determining policy terms and conditions. The Assistant Underwriter will support the Underwriting team in maintaining a smooth and efficient underwriting process while ensuring compliance with company guidelines and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Underwriters in evaluating insurance applications and determining risk levels for engineering projects, such as construction, infrastructure development, and renewable energy projects.
  • Collect and analyze necessary data, including engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, to assess risk and determine appropriate policy terms.
  • Conduct research on potential clients, including their project history, financial stability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Prepare quotes, endorsements, and other policy-related documentation in collaboration with the Underwriters.
  • Assist in reviewing policy renewals, endorsements, and policy changes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as claims and risk engineers, operation and credit control.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions affecting the engineering sector.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing client inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and brokers.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for process optimization and efficiency enhancement.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Actuarial Science, Law or related field is preferred.
  • Working experience in insurance, underwriting or engineering industry is preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with complex documents and data.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Copilot. Experience in using Access and Business Intelligence tools will be a plus.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support decision‑making.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Multi‑lingual capability (English + one other Asian language) would be preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and adapt in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Self‑motivated, highly organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Willing to travel
