About Mēkā

At mēkā, we are a multidisciplinary design and engineering studio turning creative ideas into innovative products. Our projects range from rapid prototyping and fabrication to full‑scale product development — blending design, engineering and innovation under one roof.

We’re looking for a motivated, hands‑on Assistant to the Engineering Team — someone eager to learn, organised, and ready to get involved in how things are designed, built and delivered.

This is an entry‑level position designed to provide exposure across engineering, fabrication and project coordination. Within 6 months, strong performers will have the opportunity to grow into a Junior Engineer role.

What You’ll Do

You’ll support the engineering and fabrication teams across both administrative and technical functions to ensure projects run smoothly from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Support & Coordination

  • Assist in preparing project briefs, component lists and basic costing sheets
  • Coordinate timelines, suppliers and internal resources
  • Take meeting minutes and assist in task tracking across projects

2. Procurement & Vendor Coordination

  • Source materials, components and tools online (e.g. Alibaba, local suppliers)
  • Communicate with vendors to compare quotes and follow up on orders
  • Receive, inspect and test delivered items to ensure quality and accuracy

3. Documentation & File Management

  • Organise and maintain project files in Google Drive
  • Document progress through photos, notes and assembly records
  • Prepare summary decks and reports for internal and client projects

4. Workshop & Inventory Support

  • Assist with workshop upkeep and materials preparation
  • Help manage inventory (filament, screws, cables, etc.)
  • Support simple fabrication or finishing tasks (e.g. sanding, putty, spray‑painting) under supervision

5. Research & Learning

  • Research engineering or fabrication methods, materials and solutions
  • Learn design tools and contribute to idea generation or concept sketches when possible
Who You Are
  • Diploma or Degree (or currently pursuing) in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics or a related field
  • Curious, resourceful and passionate about how things are made
  • Comfortable communicating with suppliers and team members
  • Basic hands‑on skills (or willingness to learn) in fabrication or prototyping
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) or 3D printing
Why Join Us
  • Be part of a creative and fast‑moving engineering team
  • Work on real‑world innovation projects across multiple industries
  • Gain end‑to‑end exposure to product design, fabrication and delivery
  • Clear pathway to Junior Engineer position within 6 months for high performers
  • Learn from a multidisciplinary team blending design, engineering and technology
