Our client is one of the largest Japanese contractors. The Assistant Manager (Engineering) – Mechanical & Electrical is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of M&E engineering works to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency in project delivery.

This role reports to the Head of Department.

Overview

Role overview and primary purpose of the position.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the HOD, formulate basic construction plans for MEP works, ensure safety and quality, expand orders and profits, improve productivity, and strengthen the foundation.
  • Based on the HOD's policies and strategies, develop execution plans. Through directing their implementation and achieving organizational performance, contribute to realizing the goals set by the HOD.
  • Develop comprehensive project schedules incorporating key milestones including Power Turn On, Water Turn On, and Main Equipment Delivery, ensuring alignment with Master schedule requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Design Team (BIM) to coordinate Mechanical & Electrical services integration within BIM platforms and ensure site installation compliance with Coordinated Services Drawings.
  • Formulate Testing and Commissioning strategies based on specific project phasing requirements and conduct periodic site audits of T&C activities to ensure quality standards.
  • Establish and maintain effective MEP project teams on site through strategic resource allocation and team development initiatives.
  • Formulate and implement comprehensive quality control strategies to ensure full compliance with regulatory authorities' and clients' requirements.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to optimize time and resource management for enhanced project efficiency and outcomes.
  • Manage MEP contracts with clients, consultants, and subcontractors, ensuring contractual compliance and relationship management.
  • Finalize engineering designs and solutions through collaborative engagement with clients and consultants, achieving technical and commercial alignment.
Main Roles Include
  • Collaborate with related departments to formulate basic construction plans, identify and resolve issues in the construction phase at an early stage, and conduct risk assessments.
  • Lead the development and deployment of construction technologies, promote productivity improvement, support construction sites during the period, and perform root cause analysis and recurrence prevention when troubles occur.
  • Promote construction front-loading by reflecting production information including productivity improvement methods in design drawings.
  • Promote technological development for productivity improvement and deployment to construction sites.
  • Guide and train partner companies to improve their technical capabilities and ensure penetration of our company philosophy.
Key Competencies Required
  • To solve issues in business execution by reviewing existing processes and systems.
  • To coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders through continuous dialogue while showing understanding of their positions and perspectives when necessary for business execution.
Qualifications
  • Must
    • Minimum Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
    • At least 7 years of expertise in construction planning, equipment installation, and related disciplines (design, estimation, procurement, FM).
    • Experience in building and structural projects, including airport A&A/expansion, shopping centers, factories, and office buildings.
    • Fluent in English for effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Strong coordination and collaboration skills with diverse teams.
    • Proactive in enhancing technical capabilities and promoting innovative construction methodologies.
  • Advantageous
    • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
    • Proven track record managing equipment installation, preferably as lead in new construction projects.
    • Experience in resolving technical or operational issues through cross-departmental collaboration.
