Job description

The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct tasks related to feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, applications development, model development, and establish and implement new or revised applications systems and programs to meet specific business needs or user areas
  • Monitor and control all phases of development process and analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation as well as provide user and operational support on applications to business users
  • Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development to analyze complex problems/issues, provide evaluation of business process, system process, and industry standards, and make evaluative judgement
  • Recommend and develop security measures in post implementation analysis of business usage to ensure successful system design and functionality
  • Consult with users/clients and other technology groups on issues, recommend advanced programming solutions, and install and assist customer exposure systems
  • Ensure essential procedures are followed and help define operating standards and processes
  • Serve as advisor or coach to new or Junior analysts
  • Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
  • Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
  • Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Recommended Qualifications
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications
  • Experience in managing and implementing successful projects
  • Working knowledge of consulting/project management techniques/methods
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements
Technical Qualifications
  • 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in an Engineering role, ideally within Financial Services or a large, complex, and/or global environment.
  • Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications
  • Extremely strong command of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
  • Java & Spring: Extensive hands-on experience with Java, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot.
  • Strong hands-on experience in Java and Spark development
  • Experience with Spring Batch for developing and supporting batch processing applications
  • Knowledge and experience with business rules management and decisioning solutions, such as IBM Business Automation Manager Open Edition (BAMOE) or Drools
  • Microservices: Proven experience in designing and building microservices-based architectures.
  • Messaging Systems: Strong experience with Kafka implementation for building event-driven systems.
  • Containerization: Good knowledge of container technologies, with specific experience working with Red Hat OpenShift clusters.

  • Database: Strong exposure working with enterprise applications using relational databases like Oracle as well as NoSQL databases like MongoDB for database development and optimization.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Hands-on knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, deployment tooling and infrastructure-level concepts, including ELK, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure Cloud, and AWS S3.
  • Agile Methodologies: Solid experience working in and practicing Agile development methodologies.
  • AI and Prompt Engineering: Wide exposure to and practical experience with smart AI tools and the ability to craft optimized prompts.
Leadership & Behavioral Qualifications
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering technical growth and driving delivery.
  • Consistently demonstrates clear, concise written and verbal communication, with the ability to take end-to-end ownership of projects and initiatives.
  • Fully committed and authoritative, able to make decisions confidently and drive them to completion.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of design metrics, analytics tools, benchmarking activities, and related reporting to identify best practices.
  • Demonstrated analytic and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and partner effectively with virtual teams.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and take ownership of various parts of a project or initiative.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements.

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
