Shimadzu Asia Pacific is seeking an Application Specialist (GC & GCMS) to provide technical and application support across the pre-sales and post-sales journey. You will work with customers, distributors, and internal teams to deliver analytical solutions and drive regional growth.

The role requires hands-on GC/GCMS experience, a chemistry degree, English fluency, and willingness to travel across Southeast Asia and South Asia for demonstrations, training, and development activities.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in chemistry or related field; Bachelor's considered for experienced candidates.
  • Minimum two years of hands-on GC and/or GCMS experience.
  • Fluency in English with strong written and verbal skills.
  • Strong presentation skills for technical discussions with customers and distributors.
  • Willingness to travel regionally across Southeast Asia and South Asia.

Job description

The Application Specialist (GC & GCMS) is responsible for providing technical and application support across the pre-sales and post-sales customer journey. This role works closely with customers, distributors, sales, service, and product or marketing teams to deliver effective analytical solutions, strengthen customer engagement, and support business growth across the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide pre-sales application support, including sample analysis, instrument and software demonstrations, and technical discussions with customers to understand requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Deliver post-sales application support, including customer training, development of training materials, troubleshooting, and technical consultation.
  • Lead application development projects, including method development, method optimization, and preparation of application notes and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical support to distributors, including product and application training, troubleshooting guidance, and consultation to strengthen their ability to support customers effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, service, product, and marketing teams to address customer needs and contribute to business growth.
  • Support customer and distributor activities across the region through demonstrations, training, troubleshooting, and application development.
Requirements and Competencies
  • Master's degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or another chemistry-related discipline. Bachelor's degree will be considered for experienced candidates.
  • Minimum two years of hands-on working experience with GC and/or GCMS systems.
  • Fluency in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to customers, distributors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel regionally, primarily across Southeast Asia and South Asia, to support customer and distributor engagements, including demonstrations, training, troubleshooting, and application development activities.
  • Experience with GC/GCMS accessories such as headspace, thermal desorption, SPME, or pyrolyzer systems.
  • Experience developing analytical methods, preparing technical documentation, or creating customer-facing application materials.
  • Prior experience supporting distributors, regional customers, or technical sales activities would be an advantage.
