A leading healthcare institution in Singapore is seeking a Consultant Anatomical Pathologist to work at a 795-bed acute care hospital. The position involves diagnostic reporting, quality control, and leadership of the surgical pathology service. Candidates must have a valid medical degree, specialist qualifications, and relevant experience as a Surgical Pathologist. This role also includes teaching opportunities and participation in hospital committees, making it ideal for professionals looking to advance in a collaborative environment.
A Consultant Surgical (Anatomic) Pathologist position is now available at one of the long standing tertiary hospitals in Singapore.
The facility is a 795-bed general and acute care hospital located in the Northern part of Singapore. It is part of one of the major healthcare groups in Singapore who provide tertiary healthcare to a resident population of 1.5 million living in the central and northern regions of Singapore.
The position is based in the Anatomic Pathology Section of the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM). The anatomical pathology laboratory is accredited with the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
The Surgical Pathologist will work closely with surgical pathology colleagues from two other hospitals to provide anatomical pathology services to the main hospital and the adjoining Community Hospital.
The activities range from diagnostic reporting of a range of general histopathology and cytopathology cases, intraoperative consults, validation and quality control of laboratory processes, leadership of the surgical pathology service, and other consultative services to staff of various clinical disciplines in the hospital. This includes regular interaction with surgical and oncology services from the hospital and other institutions, with attendance at multidisciplinary tumour boards and tissue audit committee meetings.
Apart from the clinical duties stated above, administrative and educational duties would include serving on hospital and external (up to National) committees in roles related to the specialty, and the teaching of different levels of staff, including medical undergraduates, resident physicians, surgical pathology trainee doctors (through the residency programme), and laboratory technical staff. Research opportunities are also available with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from the hospital and other institution groups.
Candidates should be qualified and experienced with a medical degree suitable for registration with the Singapore Medical Council, as well as a specialist postgraduate qualification such as FRCPA, FRCPath with CCT from the UK, or Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology from the U.S, for accreditation as a Specialist Pathologist with the Singapore Specialists Accreditation Board. Appointment will be based on relevant number of years of experience as a Surgical Pathologist.
