The AGV Systems Engineer is responsible for the integration, deployment, and operation of Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) systems used for material transport within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role focuses on fleet management, real-time control, system integration, and coordination with factory automation systems to enable safe, reliable, and just-in-time material delivery to production lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate, deploy, and manage a fleet of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) for material transport within the factory
- Develop, configure, and support AGV fleet management software to dispatch vehicles, monitor real-time location, and manage traffic flow
- Implement and maintain real-time communication between AGVs and central control systems using wireless networks, MQTT, or similar messaging protocols
- Ensure safe AGV operations through fail-safe mechanisms, including collision avoidance, emergency stop handling, and recovery procedures
- Coordinate AGV operations with ASRS, MES, and production equipment to enable just-in-time delivery of materials
- Integrate AGV status, alarms, and performance data into manufacturing systems or monitoring dashboards
- Troubleshoot and resolve AGV system, software, and communication issues in a production environment
- Collaborate with automation vendors, IT/OT teams, and production stakeholders to ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance
- Support system documentation, configuration management, and operational readiness
Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in industrial automation, manufacturing systems, or AGV / mobile robot integration
- Proven experience delivering production‑critical automation or system integration projects
- Experience working with factory IT/OT systems in high-volume manufacturing environments
Must Have Skills
- Experience deploying or integrating AGV systems or mobile robots in an industrial setting
- Knowledge of fleet management, routing, and traffic control strategies
- Ability to design and support real-time control systems with safety fail‑safes
- Familiarity with industrial networking and wireless communication (e.g. Wi-Fi, vehicle‑to‑infrastructure messaging)
Good to Have Skills
- Understanding of autonomous vehicle algorithms (routing, scheduling, obstacle avoidance)
- Experience with AGV vendor SDKs or APIs
- Experience using MQTT or similar machine‑to‑machine messaging protocols
- Integration of AGV data with MES or manufacturing dashboards
