Job description

About Us

Ever wondered what powers the products people rely on every day? Chances are, we've helped build it. Our software and development tools help build products used in cars, hospitals, factories, homes, and industries around the world. We help engineers solve complex challenges and create technology people can depend on. Rooted in Nordic values and trusted by innovators worldwide, we combine deep technical expertise with a culture of curiosity, craftsmanship, and collaboration. With decades of engineering experience and a shared passion for technical excellence, we're helping shape the future of software and embedded development. We take pride in building tools for people who build the world around us. IAR is part of Qt Group, operating as an independent business focused on embedded software development. We provide software development tools that help engineers develop, debug, test, and secure embedded software for products across automotive, industrial automation, medical technology, and other industries.

About The Role

As a Software Test Engineer, your primary focus will be on test execution and test automation. You will design, implement, and evolve testing strategies that ensure product quality from early development to release. You will work closely with development teams to improve testability, identify risks early, and build confidence in every release through effective automation and integration testing. You will act as a quality advocate across teams, supporting engineers with best practices, tools, and frameworks while helping shift testing efforts toward scalable, automated solutions.

Possible location for this position is Uppsala, Sweden
What You'll Do
  • Perform and contribute to release testing, verifying end‑to‑end functionality and validating that releases meet agreed‑upon quality criteria.
  • Design, develop, and execute high‑quality test plans and test cases for both manual and automated testing, with strong emphasis on testing across components and services.
  • Build, maintain, and continuously improve test automation frameworks and contribute to automated testing within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Supporting development teams in adopting effective testing strategies, including unit and integration testing.
  • Identifying risks, defects, and quality gaps early, and communicating them clearly to stakeholders.
  • Collaborating in planning, design, and requirement discussions to ensure quality is built into solutions from the start.
  • Improving test frameworks, documentation, and processes to enhance long‑term efficiency and reliability.
  • Supporting troubleshooting, debugging, and incident analysis across development and release cycles.
What You Bring To The Table

You are a collaborative and quality‑driven engineer who works closely with developers and stakeholders to improve outcomes, not just processes. You proactively communicate, share knowledge, and help teams adopt practical and effective testing approaches. You take a holistic view of quality, focusing on integration, system behavior, and real‑world usage rather than isolated test cases. You are pragmatic, continuously improving systems step by step instead of waiting for perfect solutions.

  • Experience in software testing with a strong focus on integration testing and automation.
  • Hands‑on experience with Python and/or Ruby for test automation.
  • Familiarity with test frameworks such as Pytest, Squish, or similar tools.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins) and development tools like GitLab, Jira, or Artifactory.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to identify risks and dependencies early.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and influence quality practices.
  • Conversational Swedish and fluency in English, both spoken and written.
Bonus Points For....
  • Experience testing C++ software and understanding of C++ code.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems, compilers, or tool chains.
  • Experience with build systems such as CMake.
