Job Opportunity

We are convinced that HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology is a long‑term sustainable solution. It is used for energy transmission over long distances and to connect electricity networks with minimal losses. HVDC also alleviates electricity quality problems and can contribute to the stabilization of connected power grids. For offshore wind power or long‑distance underwater transmissions, direct current is the only realistic energy transmission alternative.

In this role as a Control & Protection Software Design Engineer at Hitachi Energy, you will be part of a department responsible for automation systems and digital real‑time control of plants and transmission lines. The need for this expertise is increasing, so we look for both freshly graduated students and senior engineers.

The position is based in Ludvika and can be combined with working from a home office.

Responsibilities

• Engage in all phases of delivery: design, maintenance, testing, integration, verification, and deployment of HVDC control & protection application functions for safe and reliable operations.
• Conduct simulation studies and contribute to the development of control system designs.
• Prepare documentation and conduct customer training sessions.
• Collaborate with the team to deliver world‑class HVDC control solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical area.
• Previous experience working with Control & Protection Design.
• Experience in design and testing of control systems.
• Interest or skills in industrial application development and programming.
• EMTDC/PSCAD skills or similar are required.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken); Swedish is beneficial.
• Experience in digital technology, signal processing, and control system design is an advantage.
• Experience in the power system industry—e.g., power system control and protection systems, automation, simulation and modelling procedures—is also advantageous.
