Kraken is building the future of open finance with a dedicated Pro team handling trading backend services, APIs, and high-performance distributed systems. You will design and implement Rust services powering trading, payments, and crypto experiences, collaborating with global engineers to deliver scalable, secure systems.

Bring 7+ years of software engineering experience, a security-first mindset, and deep knowledge of distributed architectures.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience building financial trading focused products.
  • Proficient in writing network services or asynchronous code in Rust.
  • Security-first mindset during system design to ensure robustness.
  • Ability to autonomously debug issues across the stack (OS, network, application).
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems and technologies, including RPC protocols, Kafka, and Event-Driven Systems.
  • Collaborate with product teams to gather requirements and constraints for designing appropriate systems.
  • Take complete end-to-end ownership of systems and libraries.
  • Provide mentorship to other engineers while contributing to defining the technical culture.

The team

Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world’s longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.

The Pro team is responsible for everything to do with the trading backend services such as the matching engine, market data gateways, internal and external APIs, and various other trading services. The team is located globally and responsibilities are split into sub-teams, working with various tech stacks.

Our teams code in Rust and work agile around the globe.

The Opportunity

What You Bring
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience
