Video already accounts for 75% of mobile data traffic. In an AI‑enabled world of immersive experiences, digital twins, autonomous systems, and generative media, advanced video coding is indispensable. To deliver these services on a global scale, video compression and standards must keep advancing in efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability.

Join our international team of world‑class researchers at the forefront of both advanced signal processing and neural network‑based compression. You will invent, implement, and evaluate algorithms that power next‑generation video coding standards shaping the technology stack of 6G and AI‑native media.

What You Will Do
  • Invent novel video coding tools (signal processing and neural approaches) to improve video coding performance and efficiency, and invent ways to increase robustness and flexibility of video coding standards.
  • Implement inventions in software (C++/Python) and run large‑scale evaluations.
  • Drive technical contributions to JVET/MPEG standardization, author patents and publications.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers across Ericsson as well as leading industry and academia experts globally.
  • Contribute to Ericsson’s video coding research and standardization strategy.
  • Provide technical leadership and supervision.
The Skills You Bring

  • Have a proficient knowledge of relevant video coding standards (e.g., HEVC/H.265, VVC/H.266), a deep understanding of image and video processing algorithms across the end‑to‑end video coding pipeline, and solid expertise in codec high‑level syntax.
  • Have experience driving and leading technical work.
  • Have strong coding skills in C++ and/or Python.
  • Can communicate complex technical ideas clearly and concisely.
Nice to have
  • Experience holding editor, coordinator, or ad‑hoc group roles in JVET/MPEG or relevant SDOs.
  • Experience shaping an organization’s video coding standardization strategy.
  • Experience in technical leadership in an international research team.
  • Experience giving talks or tutorials at relevant academia and industry events.
Why join Ericsson
  • Be part of Europe’s leading tech company at the forefront of 6G and global standards.
  • Work with a top‑tier international research team and shape the direction of next‑generation video coding standards.
