Ampersand is seeking a hands-on Network Specialist for engagements with clients in the Gothenburg area. You will bring deep expertise in low-level Ethernet switching, PHY/MAC interfaces, and hardware debug in automotive embedded systems, with a focus on robust, high-performance communications.

The role involves working at client sites in Gothenburg, applying lab-based debugging skills and using tools like Wireshark, Git, and CI/CD workflows to validate software and hardware builds.

• Experience across Layer 1–2, including PHY interfaces, MAC behavior, and frame-level analysis.

What we are looking for

Hands-on network specialist with deep expertise in low-level Ethernet switching and hardware-level diagnostics within automotive embedded systems. Extensive experience working across Layer 1–2, including PHY interfaces, MAC behavior, and frame-level traffic analysis. Combines strong theoretical knowledge with practical lab-based debugging to ensure robust and high-performance communication systems. The assignment will be at one of our clients in Gothenburg.

We need you to have a majority of the skills below:

• Understanding of switch architectures (VLANs, QoS, TSN, buffering, forwarding behavior)
• Strong experience with PHY/MAC interfaces, SerDes and signal integrity
• Packet/frame-level analysis using tools such as Wireshark
• Hands-on lab debugging and hardware validation
• Knowledge of automotive Ethernet communication L2/L3 protocols (UDP, TCP/IP, SOME/IP)
• Hardware bring-up, board validation and component-level debugging
• Advanced oscilloscope usage (high-speed measurements, decoding, eye diagrams, jitter, triggering)
• Experience with embedded Linux or RTOS environments and low-level drivers
• Knowledge of software build chain using GitLab/Git/Jenkins
• Hands-on experience in programming languages Python/C/C++
• Deep knowledge of Automotive Ethernet and IEEE 802.3 standards
