Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences Department of Energy and Technology

Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences is a world‑class university in the bio‑ and environmental sciences, with a vision to play a key role in advancing sustainable living through science and education.

The Department of Energy and Technology conducts research and education on technologies and systems for the production, conversion, and utilization of biomass and other biological resources. Activities include development of technical processes, energy and circular systems, and analysis of environmental impacts from a system perspective, in close collaboration with society and industry. Bioenergy is a core area, covering properties of biomass and conversion processes into heat, electricity and transport fuels. The work is experimental, linking fundamental studies with practical applications.

Teaching is primarily conducted within the MSc in Engineering programmes in Energy Systems and Bioresource Systems. Courses include Bioenergy – Technology and Systems (10 credits), Energy Systems Planning (10 credits), and project courses and degree projects in energy systems. The new MSc in Engineering programme in Bioresource Systems will include an energy track running throughout the programme.

The subject encompasses the development of resource‑efficient and environmentally sustainable technologies for the supply and conversion of biomass into heat, electricity and transport fuels.

Duties

• Develop and lead internationally successful research.
• Strategically lead and participate in teaching at first, second and third cycle level.
• Primarily teach bioenergy within the MSc in Engineering programmes offered wholly or partly by SLU, and contribute to other educational components at first, second and third cycle level where the subject is included.
• Develop and maintain national and international networks with academia, relevant public authorities, industry, organisations and society at large.
• Apply for external research funding.
• Contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty and SLU.
• Communicate research findings and other relevant information to society at large.
• Perform administrative duties within the department, the faculty and the university.
• Be able to teach in Swedish within four years.

Swedish and English are used in parallel at the department. The senior lecturer should be able to perform the majority of tasks in English.

• Good knowledge of English.

It is particularly meritorious if the applicant has knowledge of Nordic energy systems. Proficiency in Swedish or another Scandinavian language is also considered an advantage.

Additional information

Swedish “universitetslektor”, a tenured position approximately equivalent to senior lecturer (UK) or associate professor (US). The applicant who is offered this employment will be employed as senior lecturer.
