Job summary

Hykmann Global Business Solutions AB is seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer to join a small, autonomous engineering team delivering large-scale distributed systems. The role is 100% on-site in Malmö, Sweden, on a 2-year contract with immediate joining and relocation assistance if needed.

Required are 5+ years of backend software experience, deep Java/JVM knowledge, and strong REST/Distributed Systems expertise.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend expertise.
• Deep knowledge of Java and JVM including memory management, GC, concurrency, performance tuning, and virtual threads.
• Experience building and scaling customer-facing web services.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and distributed data architectures.
• Experience with Cassandra, Redis, Memcached, or similar technologies; REST services with Netty or similar frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and software delivery.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a fast-changing environment.

We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer to join a small, autonomous engineering team working on large-scale, distributed systems.

Location & Work Model

• 100% On-site
• English-speaking environment
• Relocation required if not already based in Malmö
• Job Type: Contract basis (2 year)
• Joining: Immediate joiners only
• Work Permit: Valid work permit in Sweden is mandatory

Key Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend expertise
• Deep knowledge of Java and JVM, including: JVM memory management, Garbage Collection (GC), Concurrency, Performance tuning, Virtual threads
• Strong experience building and scaling customer-facing web services
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and distributed data architectures
• Experience with Cassandra, Redis, Memcached, or similar technologiesExperience building REST services using Netty or similar frameworks
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and software delivery
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a fast-changing environment

Nice to Have

• Cryptography/security knowledge: PKCS, KMIP, X.509, AES, KDF, CA
• Exposure to ML systems/frameworks
• Experience with GitHub, Maven, Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker
• Experience with privacy-sensitive or security-critical systems
