Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Your future team

You will join the Data Science team composed of 45+ Data scientists and Machine Learning Engineers. You will work in an international environment, collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to deliver end-to-end data and AI products used globally.

The Data Scientist position is located in Gothenburg and it is a permanent contract.

You will report to the Chapter Lead Sweden.

What you will do

At Volvo Group Digital Technology & Operations (DTO) you will contribute to the transformation of our company, the transport industry and society at large.

In this role, you will turn complex business challenges into data products and AI solutions that create measurable impact, including sustainability outcomes. Working with global stakeholders, you will frame problems, define success metrics, and deliver solutions end to end.

You will design, build, deploy, and operate ML and AI products with strong engineering practices, including CI/CD, monitoring, and robust model and feature management.

You will help ensure long‑term performance by monitoring drift and partnering with the business to decide when and how to improve pipelines.

You will also apply NLP and LLM approaches for e.g. classification use cases, while designing solutions that meet security, governance, and regulatory requirements.

You will take leadership and responsibility of an AI product run by a team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers.

Who are you?

Do you dream big? We do too, and we are excited to grow together. In this role, you will bring:

  • Solid understanding of statistics, probability theory and machine learning – with a relevant academic degree (min. Master's) in a quantitative field, such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, or physics.
  • Strong applied experience in data science and ML, experimental design, evaluation, and production patterns
  • Proven ability to deliver customer value by framing problems with stakeholders and defining measurable success metrics
  • Hands‑on experience with the full lifecycle of AI and ML software, including, among others, CI/CD, architecture, orchestration, quality assurance, and monitoring.
  • Solid programming and data skills with Python and SQL, plus version control with Git
  • Experience working with platforms and tooling such as Azure and Databricks, and applying MLOps practices (e.g. Azure Pipelines, Github Actions, Databricks Jobs)
  • Clear communication skills in English and preferably also in the local language, and the ability to collaborate across cultures and time zones.
Nice to have
  • Deep experience with LLMs, including retrieval, prompt engineering, evaluation, safety and cost performance tuning
  • Experience delivering ML and AI in regulated environments with governance and audit requirements
  • Domain experience with vehicle data, diagnostics, telematics, or quality and warranty analytics
  • Leadership experience such as owning ML products end‑to‑end, mentoring, or leading practitioner communities
What’s in it for you?

We offer a solid package of compensation and benefits, plus you will enjoy:

  • A role where you can create measurable impact through Data and AI, including contributions to sustainability goals
  • A collaborative, international community with 900+ data colleagues across seven countries
  • Strong opportunities to grow through global, cross‑functional work and end‑to‑end product ownership
  • A culture that values openness, diversity in expertise and perspective, and co‑creation
