Job summary

Instabee's Orders team is building the core order engine for Europe’s fast-growing delivery platform. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will shape architecture, drive performance, and mentor teammates, with autonomy to influence technical direction.

You’ll work with Node.js, TypeScript, MongoDB, Kubernetes and GCP, adopting AI-powered workflows to streamline operations, and collaborate with product managers to deliver scalable solutions.

About the role

The Orders team plays an integral role in our organization. As a Senior Backend Engineer in this core team, you’ll have a significant impact on our overall architecture, technical direction, and company success. Together, we continue to develop one of Sweden’s most widely used delivery services—and you will play a key leadership role in shaping the future of our engineering organization and delivery platforms!

Some of the things you will do

• Architect next-generation systems: Lead the technical design, scalability, and performance of our crucial order-handling backbone.

• Integrate AI & modern tech: Drive the adoption of AI-powered tools, smart workflows, and modern technologies to enhance system performance, automated processes, and developer workflows.

• Drive technical strategy & mentor: Partner closely with product management and cross-functional stakeholders to align technical architecture with business goals while mentoring junior and mid-level team members.

• Champion innovation: Stay ahead of industry trends, evaluate new technologies, and introduce best practices that elevate our engineering standards.

• System evolution & optimization: Continuously review, audit, and refactor our distributed architecture to maximize reliability, maintainability, and efficiency.

• Collaborative leadership: Lead by example in an autonomous environment that embraces pair/mob programming, high-standard code reviews, and collective technical problem-solving.

Your future team

The Orders team is responsible for developing and maintaining the core engine of our business: order handling. This involves everything from creating and managing orders to ensuring their successful completion and everything in between. By driving technical excellence in this domain, you will empower and support development teams across Instabee.

You will join a focused, high-impact team supported by an Engineering Manager, a Product Manager, and a Staff Engineer. We operate with high autonomy, relying on senior expertise to make high-leverage architectural decisions foundational to Instabee's growth.

What we're looking for

• Senior Engineering Background: Extensive experience as a Senior Backend Engineer designing, building, and maintaining high-throughput systems in modern production environments.

• Core Tech Stack: Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript.

• Deep Database Experience: Deep expertise with MongoDB (or equivalent document/NoSQL/relational database technologies), including query optimization and schema design for high-scale applications.

• Cloud & Infrastructure: Strong proficiency with Kubernetes and production experience with GCP (Google Cloud Platform) or similar cloud infrastructure.

• AI Savvy: A forward-thinking, proactive approach to leveraging AI capabilities, LLMs, or developer automation to optimize backend engineering and business operations.

• Technical Leadership & Learning: A continuous-learning mindset paired with the ability to drive technical initiatives from conception to delivery.

• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly articulate complex architectural concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
