Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Västerås, Sweden, invites an experienced engineer to lead the technical coordination of AC Protection and Control systems from concept to commissioning. You will collaborate with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliant, reliable solutions.

The role requires deep knowledge of relay protection schemes, protection panel design principles, and experience in FAT/SAT, commissioning, and risk management.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with protection and control systems for MV/HV substations and power transmission projects.
• Strong knowledge of relay protection schemes, including protection, control, measurement, and supervision functions.
• Familiarity with protection relay manufacturers and their applications.
• Solid understanding of protection panel design principles and industry best practices.
• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, project planning, and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Translate customer requirements and technical specifications into robust AC Protection and Control system designs.
• Define clear technical requirements for engineering partners and sub-suppliers.
• Lead technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout project execution.
• Evaluate supplier quotations and technical solutions for project standards.
• Review and validate protection panel designs, interfaces, and system integrations.
• Ensure protection functions, relay configurations, and settings are aligned before FAT.
• Coordinate and oversee FAT activities with quality and compliance to deliverables.
• Support installation, commissioning, and SAT with remote or on-site guidance.

Join a highly skilled engineering team within HVDC Automation and play a key role in delivering advanced AC Protection and Control solutions for large-scale energy projects. In this role, you will lead the technical coordination of protection and control systems from concept to commissioning, working closely with customers, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, compliant, and reliable solutions.

How You'll Make An Impact

• Translate customer requirements and technical specifications into robust AC Protection and Control system designs.
• Define clear and comprehensive technical requirements for engineering partners and sub-suppliers.
• Lead technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout project execution.
• Evaluate supplier quotations and technical solutions to ensure compliance with project standards and requirements.
• Review and validate protection panel designs, communication interfaces, and system integrations.
• Ensure protection functions, relay configurations, and settings are fully aligned before Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
• Coordinate and oversee FAT activities, ensuring quality and compliance with project deliverables.
• Support installation, commissioning, and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities through remote or on-site technical guidance.

Your Background

• Proven experience with protection and control systems for MV/HV substations and power transmission projects.
• Great knowledge of relay protection schemes, including protection, control, measurement, and supervision functions.
• Familiarity with a wide range of protection relay manufacturers and their applications.
• Solid understanding of protection panel design principles and industry best practices.
• Experience with power system studies, grid codes, protection coordination, and system performance requirements.
• Ability to review, validate, and optimize protection settings and configurations.
• Experience managing technical suppliers and coordinating engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Knowledge of FAT, SAT, commissioning processes, project planning, and technical risk management.
