Job summary

Minnesota Department of Transportation in Karlstad seeks a Temporary Transportation Generalist for snow plow operations. The role supports road maintenance, equipment prep, and post-storm cleanups on a 40-hour week.

The position is temporary through April 20, 2027, with 7:00 am–3:30 pm shifts, Monday–Friday, and on-call weekends/holidays during snow events. CDL and tanker endorsement required, with Alabama? No; endorsement within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year experience in snow/ice, road or related maintenance work.
• Education coursework may substitute with Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits).
• CDL license with no air brake restriction; tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
• Prepares and inspects winter equipment.
• Performs preseason snow route inspection and post-storm cleanup.
• Transfers anti-icing/de-icing chemicals and maintains inventory data.
• Documents snow/ice data for inventory and resource management.
• Sets up traffic control and notifies dispatch of disabled vehicles.
