Job summary

ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden seeks an R&D Scientist in Power Electronics and Applications to lead innovative projects across modeling, simulation and experimental validation.

You will design and validate advanced power electronics concepts, collaborate with teams across motions, automation and electrification, and help develop ABB’s future portfolio using digital simulations and lab testing.

Qualifications

• PhD in power electronics with strong theoretical foundation and hands-on expertise in power electronics topologies, control, and applications.
• Proficiency in design, modeling, simulation, and optimization of power converters and drives.
• Strong experimental and analytical skills to design, test, and document results.
• Knowledge of data-driven methods and ML is a strong plus for predictive modeling.
• Collaborative, results-driven mindset enabling cross-team delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead and drive R&D initiatives from idea to validated concept with stakeholders.
• Develop and validate innovative power electronics solutions including lab test setups.
• Scout new technologies and contribute to digital solutions for ABB’s future portfolio.
