Uppsala University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in materials theory.

The Division of materials theory offers world-class research in solid-state theory, using both numerical and analytical methods. The research is focused on magnetism, electronic structures, topological phases, correlation phenomena, and materials for green energy.

Duties

The postdoctoral position involves working in a larger theoretical research environment focused on the development and application of methods for simulating magnetism, particularly atomistic and multiscale simulations. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading experimental and theoretical groups at Uppsala University and other Swedish universities with a research focus on functional magnetic materials.

Requirements

PhD degree in physics or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in physics. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the deadline for applications. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

• The successful applicant is expected to have expertise in atomistic or micromagnetic simulation methods. Experience in both software development and the application of these methods is important and will be taken into account in the assessment of applicants.
• Good communication skills in both spoken and written English.

Additional qualifications

Experience with development of atomistic- or multiscale simulation methods, e.g in a GPU architecture, and their applications to magnetic phenomena is meriting.

About the employment

The employment is a temporary position of two years according to central collective agreement. Full time position. Starting date December 1, 2026 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
