Since its founding in 1827, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities. The advertised post‑doctoral position is within a 5‑year Wallenberg Scholar project titled “Scalable and adaptive inferencing for democratizing AI”. The 18 million SEK project aims to dramatically reduce the cost and power for serving large language models such as ChatGPT.

The role focuses on the design, implementation and evaluation of distributed systems and networks for machine learning inference, and on applying machine learning concepts to devise agentic frameworks.

Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype and deploy experimental systems that enable large‑scale, energy‑efficient inference of language models.
  • Collaborate with faculty and doctoral students in the research lab, contributing to scientific publications and new grant applications.
  • Work closely with Professor Dejan Kostic and Associate Professor Marco Chiesa to guide research direction and methodology.
Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree, required by the time of employment decision.
  • Solid background in distributed systems, networking, programming and operating systems.
  • Strong skills in C++, Python, Linux and at least one scripting language.
  • Excellent critical‑thinking abilities and fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Motivation to experiment and explore, with a record of publications in peer‑reviewed journals or top conferences.

Preferred qualifications

  • Doctoral degree completed within the last three years.
  • Experience in machine learning, GPU programming or large‑scale inference systems.
  • Teaching experience and awareness of gender equality and equal‑opportunity issues.
  • Strong collaborator who can also work independently.
