Postdoc in Development Anaerobic Process for Bioplastic Valorization
KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health

The Environmental Biotechnology cluster of the Industrial Biotechnology department seeks a highly motivated postdoc candidate to conduct research in the area of anaerobic processes. The candidate will be involved in a number of EU and nationally funded projects, particularly co‑fermentation of food waste and bioplastics for the bioproduction of value‑added products such as volatile fatty acids and biogas. These works include the bioproduction process, microbial ecology analysis, and the separation and purification of the bioproducts. This work involves collaboration with other academic and industrial partners. The candidate is expected to write research articles, technical reports and also to present the results orally to the scientific community and the general public. The work may also involve teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering, Bioengineering, or another related field. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Experimental research expertise in an anaerobic bioreactor design, operation and optimisation.
  • Experimental research expertise on wastewater treatment and/or other waste streams.
  • Experimental research on analysing bioplastics.
  • Experimental research expertise on microbial ecology tools.
  • The candidate should have good communication skills and proficiency in English both in writing and speaking.
  • The candidate must possess strong scientific writing skills demonstrated through publications in international peer‑reviewed journals.
  • The candidate must be strongly motivated and possess the ability to work independently and perform critical analysis.
  • The candidate must possess good levels of cooperative abilities.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.
  • Ability to teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
