Job description

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Fluids and Surfaces Group at KTH. The position offers the opportunity to develop an independent research profile within a broad range of topics, including turbulence, multiphase flows, interfacial phenomena, biofilms, surface engineering, computational fluid dynamics, and scientific machine learning.

The research direction will be adapted to the successful candidate’s expertise and interests. You will work closely with a dynamic team of PhD students and researchers and have access to unique experimental platforms, advanced numerical simulation tools, and high-performance computing resources. The position is supported by an ERC-funded research program, providing excellent opportunities to pursue ambitious research questions and establish international collaborations.

Your main duties will be to conduct high-quality research, publish in leading journals, contribute to the development of new research directions, and support the supervision of doctoral and master’s students. Depending on your background, the work may involve experiments, direct numerical simulations, theoretical modelling, data-driven methods, or combinations thereof.

The FLOW centre offers an internationally recognized research environment with strong expertise in fluid mechanics and applied mathematics. The division maintains extensive collaborations with leading academic institutions and industrial partners worldwide.

This position is particularly suitable for candidates who enjoy scientific challenges, value intellectual freedom, and wish to contribute to the development of next‑generation approaches for understanding and controlling complex fluid systems.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Demonstrated scientific expertise in fluid mechanics.
  • Ability to conduct independent research and publish scientific results in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Good collaborative skills and the ability to work in an international research environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, as it is required in the daily work.
  • Research expertise.
  • Teaching abilities.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.
  • As a person, you are independent, proactive, and have a strong ability to collaborate with researchers and students.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Experience in supervision or teaching at the university level.
  • Experience of international research collaborations.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
