Job description

Postdoc in Circular Manufacturing Systems

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to contribute to the transition towards a circular industry by researching circular manufacturing systems and resource‑efficient production solutions. The research is carried out at the Department of Production Engineering at KTH.

Responsibilities include:

  • Advancing the iReGear project in close collaboration with TRATON Group R&D, focusing on integration of remanufactured transmission components into production systems for new heavy vehicles.
  • Analyzing and developing component and material flows, and identifying opportunities for reuse, reprocessing and remanufacturing while considering technical, quality and operational requirements.
  • Contributing to other research initiatives and project proposals.
  • Engaging in regular physical presence in Södertälje and building a strong international network.

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in engineering, with M.Sc. and B.Sc. in production, manufacturing, industrial or mechanical engineering (or equivalent). Eligibility must be met by the time of employment decision.
  • Academic publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, preferably in circular economy or production engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-disciplinary work and coordinate complex inputs from diverse research disciplines, organizations, and projects.
  • Experience in generating research ideas and securing funding through proposals.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Recent doctoral degree (within last three years) or equivalent.
  • Documented research experience or strong interest in circular manufacturing systems.
  • Experience in manufacturing, remanufacturing or circular production systems.
  • Experience in research and innovation projects, consortium building and project management, especially EU‑funded projects.
  • Industrial experience from production environments.
  • Excellent teamwork, cross‑functional and international collaboration skills; strong command of English.
  • Ability to communicate research results to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with a focus on gender equality.
