Job summary

Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg seeks a doctoral candidate to study how urban form and pedestrian movement shape exposure to environmental conditions. The project combines morphology, Space Syntax, and GIS to develop the Pedestrian-Weighted Exposure framework and to identify where interventions yield the greatest public health benefits.

Fully funded four-year PhD with teaching up to 20% of full-time.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning, or a closely related field.
• Strong knowledge of urban morphology theories and methods, esp. Space Syntax.
• Experience with GIS for mapping and spatial analysis of urban environments.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Develop spatial indicators for measuring Pedestrian-Weighted Exposure (PWE).
• Collect, document and analyse empirical data on pedestrian activity.
• Use GIS and urban morphological methods to model pedestrian movement.
• Integrate pedestrian data with high-resolution environmental data.
• Apply statistical and geospatial methods across contexts and populations.
• Identify where planning interventions could improve environmental exposure.
• Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
