Job summary

Umeå University invites applications for a four-year PhD position in Chemistry with a specialization in inorganic chemistry. The project investigates radiation-induced processes at oxide–water interfaces using advanced experimental and theoretical methods, with a start date from 1 October 2026.

The PhD student will combine time-resolved X-ray spectroscopy at synchrotron facilities with molecular modeling, in collaboration with researchers at KTH.

Qualifications

• Second-cycle degree in chemistry or equivalent with 240 ECTS.
• At least 60 ECTS at second cycle or equivalent foreign education.
• First-cycle chemistry courses totaling at least 90 ECTS, with 15 at second cycle level.

Responsibilities

• Pursue doctoral studies and participate in research and courses (up to 20% teaching).
• Carry out radiation-induced interface studies using X-ray spectroscopy and modeling.
• Collaborate with KTH and MAXIV for multimodal characterization.
