Job summary

Lund University offers a doctoral student position in the field of computational physics of many-particle quantum systems. The project focuses on ultra-cold atomic quantum gases, MCTDH methodology, and numerical implementation in bosonic and fermionic systems.

The PhD candidate will work on theory and computation, collaborate with experimental teams, and contribute to publications and knowledge transfer in HPC and data handling. The four-year full-time program includes teaching duties up to 20%.

Qualifications

  • Hold a second-cycle qualification or have satisfied the requirements for at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 were second-cycle credits.
  • Have at least 30 second-cycle credits relevant to physics, with at least 15 credits from a second-cycle degree project, or possess an MSc in physics or an associated field (including engineering physics).
  • Courses and master’s thesis in theoretical physics.
  • Prior work in many-particle quantum mechanics.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in HPC, C++ and GPU computing.
  • Strong independent research ability and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to cooperate and work in a team.
  • Very good English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and optimise a multi-configuration time-dependent Hartree description of bosonic and fermionic many-particle quantum systems.
  • Model work in collaboration with experiment.
  • Publish research results obtained in the project.
  • Transfer knowledge of HPC, code maintenance and data safety to the group and handle organisational issues concerning storage.
  • Participate in teaching and departmental work (max. 20% of the working time).
