Job summary

Jobtailor in Sweden is seeking a senior optical engineer to design and validate advanced imaging systems for medical applications. You will use Zemax OpticStudio to create robust optics, collaborate with software, AI, and hardware teams, and translate optical constraints into concrete requirements.

You will drive prototype-to-production work, perform tolerance analyses, and contribute to regulatory documentation under ISO 13485 and EU MDR.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience designing and building real optical systems.
  • Experience with imaging optics and illumination engineering.
  • Experience with optomechanical integration and thermal/mechanical tolerances.
  • Ability to write optical test protocols and interpret MTF curves.
  • Experience in medical imaging or regulated imaging environments (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Design and simulate optical systems for medical imaging using Zemax.
  • Coordinate system design needs with other functions.
  • Set optical specifications, tolerances, and acceptance criteria with engineers.
  • Work with vendors to qualify parts and balance cost vs. performance.
  • Lead development of illumination systems and imaging optics.
  • Take designs from prototype to production with tolerance analysis and test plans.
  • Measure system performance with MTF analysis and metrology.
  • Collaborate with software and AI teams to align optics with image processing.
  • Contribute to design documentation, risk analysis, and regulatory submissions.
