To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
The Stagkourakis Lab at Karolinska Institutet and SciLifeLab in Stockholm is recruiting up to two PhD students in bioengineering. We are based at the Department of Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet and are part of SciLifeLab , Sweden’s national center for large-scale biosciences and data-driven life science. Our mission is to uncover the neural and neurohormonal mechanisms underlying instinctual and homeostatic behaviors, including aggression, fear, food, and water intake.
We seek a candidate who will contribute to the development and integration of advanced experimental systems for large-scale in vivo recordings, closed-loop behavioral assays, and optogenetic manipulations.
Our research combines in vivo large-scale electrophysiology (Neuropixels), AAV-based circuit targeting, behavior, and imaging approaches such as miniscope and two-photon microscopy. We maintain a strong commitment to technical innovation, behavioral rigor and data stewardship.
We are looking for a motivated Biomedical Engineer (or related background) with strong technical and analytical skills, eager to work at the interface between engineering and neuroscience. The ideal candidate is excited by building and optimizing experimental systems that enable new types of neural measurements, from sensor design and hardware synchronization to real-time behavioral feedback and neural signal decoding.
