Job summary

Vallum Associates seeks a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to drive electrical design for large-scale Data Centre projects across Sweden. You will own design packages from concept to construction, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable, energy-efficient critical power solutions.

You will lead design reviews, ensure compliance with Swedish/European standards, and mentor engineers while managing schedules and procurement inputs in a fast-moving mission-critical environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Significant experience in electrical building services or power systems design, ideally within Data Centres or mission-critical facilities.
• Proven experience leading electrical design packages and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the electrical design of large-scale Data Centre projects from concept to construction support.
• Oversee design and coordination of HV/LV distribution, UPS, generators, switchgear, transformers and critical power infrastructure.
• Develop and review electrical design calculations, specifications, single-line diagrams, equipment schedules and drawings.
• Provide technical leadership to engineers, designers and external consultants.
• Coordinate with mechanical, CSA, architectural and construction teams for fully integrated designs.
• Manage design deliverables, ensuring programs, budgets and technical requirements are met.
• Review contractor submissions, identify risks and resolve design issues.
• Ensure compliance with Swedish and European regulations and IEC standards.
• Participate in design reviews, client presentations and value engineering workshops.
• Support procurement through technical evaluations and vendor design reviews.
• Provide technical support during installation, testing, commissioning and handover.

Lead Electrical Design Engineer – Data Centres

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering large-scale hyperscale Data Centre projects across Sweden.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of complex electrical design packages, lead engineering activities and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring electrical designs meet the highest standards of reliability, resilience, efficiency and compliance within mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the electrical design of large-scale Data Centre projects, from concept design through detailed design and construction support.
• Oversee the design and coordination of HV/LV electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, transformers and critical power infrastructure.
• Develop and review electrical design calculations, technical specifications, single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, drawings and design documentation.
• Provide technical leadership to electrical engineers, designers and external consultants.
• Coordinate with mechanical, CSA, architectural and construction teams to ensure fully integrated design solutions.
• Manage electrical design deliverables, ensuring compliance with project programmes, budgets and technical requirements.
• Review contractor and subcontractor design submissions, identifying technical risks and resolving design issues.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Swedish and European electrical regulations, IEC standards and engineering best practices.
• Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, client presentations and value engineering workshops.
• Support procurement activities through technical evaluations, equipment selection and vendor design reviews.
• Provide technical support during installation, testing, commissioning, energisation and project handover.
• Drive innovation, energy efficiency and resilient electrical design solutions.

Skills & Experience Required

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in electrical building services or power systems design, ideally within Data Centres, mission-critical facilities or large-scale industrial projects.
• Proven experience leading electrical design packages and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Strong technical knowledge of:

• High-voltage and low-voltage electrical distribution systems
• UPS systems and battery backup infrastructure
• Standby generators and emergency power systems
• Switchgear, transformers and substations
• Power distribution units (PDUs) and busbar systems
• Electrical protection, earthing and bonding
• Short-circuit, load flow and discrimination studies
• Electrical resilience, redundancy and critical power systems
• Experience managing electrical design activities from concept through detailed design and construction.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering design software, such as Revit, AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM PowerTools or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of European electrical design standards and relevant Swedish regulations.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and technical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver within demanding project schedules.
